Savoy Bookstore & Café will host an author event on Wednesday evening, November 13th, as part of their Holiday Gift Guide series. Len will introduce Celtic Crossing to the audience, read an excerpt, take questions, and sign copies for interested patrons. This public event starts at 7:00 PM.

The author looks forward to meeting the public in County Kerry, Ireland, on Saturday, November 2nd, beginning at 8:00 PM. Celtic Crossing: An Inspirational Suspense Novel with Very Local Roots will focus on sites in and about Ballinskelligs, a key backdrop for the story. Len will also recount a series of coincidences that first led him to the Ring of Kerry, and share some personal reflections from his years as a pediatric oncologist.

The author will be on hand at this Rathmine's neighborhood bookshop on Tuesday, 29 October, between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM to sign copies of his inspirational suspense novel, Celtic Crossing. Alan Hanna's is featured prominently in the book, including this snippet on page 78: Entering the store, [Kevin] knew at once he'd be back. The densely packed shelves spanned floor to ceiling. ... An adjacent coffeehouse stood just beyond a peaked arch: he was in his element. Come meet Len and learn more about this poignant tale.

The public is invited to attend Celtic Crossing: An Author Event with Dr. Len Mattano on Sunday, October 20th, beginning at 2:00 PM. Following a presentation and reading in the auditorium, Len will greet guests in the lobby for light refreshments and a book signing opportunity. Len will share personal insights with the Kalamazoo College community and alumni on his career transition From Oncologist to Novelist beginning at 11:00 AM. A K'81 graduate, Len completed his medical training at the University of Michigan in 1991 and returned to Kalamazoo to establish the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Program at Bronson. In 2009 he relocated to Connecticut where both he and his wife Sue (K'81, née Szabo) worked in drug development. Celtic Crossing, his debut novel, explores universal themes inspired by his work with the terminally ill.

10.18.2019 | Pediatric Grand Rounds | Bronson Gilmore Center, Kalamazoo MI

Medical staff, faculty, and students are invited to attend Pediatric Grand Rounds on Friday, October 18th, at 8:00 AM for a multidisciplinary presentation entitled Family Cancer Syndrome: 50 Years of Lessons. Speakers will include pediatric oncologist Len Mattano, genetic counselor Carol Christianson, and hospital chaplain Ben Schaefer. First described in 1969, Li-Fraumeni syndrome is the paradigmatic cancer predisposition disorder. Studies conducted on one of Len's former patients and her family led to the identification of the underlying genetic basis for the disorder, published in 1990.

Dr. Anthony Pagliarini in the Department of Theology at the University of Notre Dame will host an author event for students and faculty on Thursday, October 17th, beginning at 8:00 PM in the Geddes Hall Coffee House. Celtic Crossing: A Quest for the Meaning of Life in the Context of Death will focus on this central theme in Len's inspirational suspense novel. Copies of the book will be available through Hammes Notre Dame Bookstore.

10.16.2019 | Bronson Medical Staff Book Club | The Park Club, Kalamazoo MI

Len will meet with members of the book club to discuss the medical, psychologic, emotional, and spiritual care themes explored in Celtic Crossing. This private event will begin at 6:00 PM in the Director's Room.

10.15.2019 | UM Public Event | Ann Arbor District Library, Ann Arbor MI

The University of Michigan Medical School Program on Health, Spirituality & Religion will host an event for students, faculty, and the public on Tuesday, October 15th, beginning at 7:00 PM in the Multi-Purpose Room of the downtown public library. Entitled Celtic Crossing: A Literary Exploration of Spirituality and Religion in the Terminally Ill, UM Psychiatry Resident Jeremy Baruch will join the author to discuss spiritual care themes explored in the novel. A book purchase & signing opportunity will follow in the foyer. Refreshments provided.

Join the author to celebrate the release of Celtic Crossing. A limited number of Celtic Crossing books will be for sale at the St. Baldrick's Foundation booth during the upcoming COG Fall Group Meeting in Atlanta. In celebration of Halfway to St. Baldrick's Day, which coincides with the book's September 17th release, half of the purchase price will go to the Foundation on behalf of childhood cancer research.
